Offering a DJ Service on the Side

Though I would have to say that my wife’s and my job are going well, we never seem to get ahead. There always seems to be something that needs our money, from fixing the hot water tank, to new tires for the car. At this rate, we will not be able to save up a down payment on a new home for years.

But when a buddy of mine asked me if I could DJ their wedding, I was excited – it had been years since I had the opportunity. I talked it over with my wife, and she was ok with it provided that we didn’t have to buy all of the equipment – so I needed to find a way for it to work.

I knew of a place in town that provided audiovisual rentals so I thought that I would check there first. The owner was very friendly and was able to give me a quote for the rental of all the sound equipment that I would need for a two day rental. It was quite reasonable.

With the wedding coming up in two short weeks, it will be the test for me to see if offering a DJ service will be worth my while. Though I won’t make tons of money doing it, it could be what we need to save up the down payment for our home, which will make it worth it.

Emily won!

Emily won her boat race! She was sailing 420s with both of her brothers and about sixty other kids, and she came in first! She was the only girl to place, as well. You should see how excited she is. She crossed the finish line and she let out this big whoop and did a handstand in the boat! It was too funny.

Her picture is going to be in the paper and she got a gift certificate for outboard parts and marine accessories; it’s to her favorite store, and now she’s talking about possibly getting a new boat so she can spend the money on Evinrude parts for an engine.

Her brothers are a little glum, but honestly, I’m just so proud of her for being a girl and not taking any guff from the guys. She is so competitive and she outpaces them every time, and now her brothers are working a lot harder to keep up. I think it’s great! I’m so thrilled that my children know the meaning, feeling, and prestige of hard work. I don’t want Emily to ever be one of those girls that gives up something she loves because she’s scare of competition or because her husband wants her to. I’m so proud of her!

Meditation Helps Me with My Art

I think that meditation is wonderful. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about it. There are so many different meditation techniques out there that I can always find the time to practice, whether I have five minutes or a half of an hour. I began using meditation as a way to cope with stress but it has evolved into so much more.

When I am able to meditate, I just feel centered and grounded. And it does feel good to take care of myself and do something for me. I sometimes get so caught up in taking care of my kids, husband, friends, parents, and the house, that I really need to just take 10 minutes to meditate. It’s almost like hitting the reset button.

I am an artist. I mostly paint but I do some metal work and sculpture as well. I have found that meditation really helps me with my work. If I feel blocked or uncreative, meditating will usually help me to work past that. I have also gotten some pretty amazing ideas for my painting while I have been meditating. I definitely feel more open and creative since I began meditating on a regular basis. I have even starting writing down some artist specific meditation techniques. I have several friends who are writers and artists and I think that they will really be able to benefit from what I have learned.

Those Crazy Girls

A friend of mine told me the other day about her trip out of her quiet county she lives in when she went over to Orange County for the weekend for a good friend’s bachelorette party. Who knew the night would end up with the whole party desperately in search of a place to find Bail Bonds to get her out of jail! Fortunately they found Bail Bonds in Orange County a pretty hot commodity and I guess they must have a lot of people who have similar things happen every night and day, where someone just drinks a little too much and starts doing crazy things that they will regret in the morning.

My friend, well, she decided after a few shots of rum mixed with several pints of beer that it would be a good idea to climb up on a light pole over a busy street and throw water balloons. As you can only imagine, this definitely did not go over well with the police, who were out there within minutes and the next thing my friend knew she was being pulled off the lamp post on a fire truck ladder, getting handcuffed none too gently, and hauled in to the detox tank. This was definitely not the party night that anyone had anticipated!

Hollywood Goes Buff

Have you seen some of these actors lately? Holy cow! Some of these actors look like they’ve been working out 5 hours a day! Now, I know that as an actor, you do what it takes to get into the role, even if that means doing the whole bodybuilding thing, but these guys are buff!

Did you see Ben Stiller in Tropic Thunder? Tell me that guys hasn’t put on some muscle since his “Meet the Fockers” days. And Robert Downey Jr. has to be taking creatine or winstrol or something. He’s put on muscle like crazy. I guess maybe they’re just working with personal trainers for hours a day but man, we’re talking buff here. As a woman, I have to say I’m really liking how Hollywood is focusing on the buff men for a change, instead of constantly parading out the hot women. I can placate my husband by going to see these action flicks with him, and get my eye candy at the same time.

We’re going to see “The Wrestler” next week. Wohoo!

Music Downloads

There has to be some way to get lots of free music downloads. But of course I want to keep it legal. I don’t want the music download police knocking on our door anytime soon! I was still too young to get in on the whole Napster thing before they shut that all down. Now the free music download choices are few and far between.

I’ve scored a few free downloads by signing up for opt in email lists. It helps too if you have a few email addresses because when you do stumble upon one where you get a free download for signing up, you can sign up a bunch of times! But finding these email lists can be difficult and time consuming.

Then there are the ones from all of the soft drink companies. They really make you jump through hoops. And when you finally have jumped through all of the hoops, the choice in songs is very limited. It’s like they never have anything new or fresh.

There are a few sites that offer free downloads like MTV which I think are legit, but it still feels kind of risky whenever you go to sites like theirs. Any time you get music truly for free there is going to be some kind of catch. After all, nothing is really free.

Feminity In Tattoo Design

As a woman I want my tattoo that I am planning on getting to be somewhat girly. I like more feminine designs. When I was looking through the catalog of tattoo designs I saw a lot of really cool designs. My favorite design was the butterfly. There are a lot of ways to represent a butterfly. You can do it with different wing configurations, and then add different colors to it to make it distinctly your own. I also really liked the star tattoos I saw in the catalog. They were beautiful, though they were really only one color - all variations of yellow. Which if the color yellow is the right shade of yellow it will look just fine. Finally I took a look at the fairy tattoos. These were so fun and whimsical. I liked the designs because it was so fairy tale like. You know, like one step away from finding my prince charming. The decision was going to be hard because there were so many different choices to make.

This was something that I had to make a good choice on because it would be representative of me for many years to come. Such a big decision… I chose the butterfly in shades of blue because it was beautiful and delicate just like me!

Confessions of a New Mother

When my first child was born, so too were fears of being able to care for my five pound bundle of joy. I’d never held such a small baby before and being responsible for him was overwhelming. Sure, I’d babysat as a teenager but nobody had ever entrusted me with a baby, just days old and so helpless. To my relief, my mother and mother-in-law took turns staying with my husband and me as we adjusted to our roles as first time parents. With the freezer stacked with frozen casseroles and a dozen or so sleepless nights behind us, we became solely responsible for a little, precious life.

First, I will admit I was scared of something going wrong with the baby. My girlfriends assured me that it is a natural fear of first time mothers. Afraid to leave the baby alone, I set up a nanny cam in the baby’s room so I could watch him while he slept. I found myself using the spy cam to ease my mind as I went about my daily tasks. Folding laundry while watching a baby security camera may seem odd but it was the only way I could feel comfortable that my new son was safe.

The Story Of The Hottub Installer

So I met the most beautiful guy of my entire life last week in the most absurd circumstances. I recently moved into my own little house, the first house I have ever owned (so much better than apartments!) So pretty much all the interior decorating is done. I went with a southwestern theme throughout the kitchen and living room with iron kokopellis on the walls and orange and red furniture! It looks really pretty and now it is pretty much finished, I have decided to move onto the backyard. A week or so ago I decided to look into installing a hot tub. I went online to look for hot tub dealers and found one which, fortunately, offered discount hot tubs. I went through the motions and ordered a tub installation. The guy they sent was tall, handsome and so incredibly friendly. It was my intention to run some errands while he got busy in the back yard but after we started chatting I couldn’t tear myself away! The best part is, while he told me all about himself, he worked diligently on the hot tub and got it all fixed up in no time. The next thing I knew the lemonade I was constantly offering him had changed to margaritas. Sipping on the drinks out there in the sunset, I got a little bold and asked this hot tub installer if he wanted to test out the water with me! So there we were, the best, sort of date, I have ever had. We talked till about midnight when he had to leave because of his early shift the next day. After exchanging the information we didn’t already have, he said good night and told me he’d call. So it’s now a week later and I have a date with him tonight! The best thing I ever did really was order that hot tub. Not only do I have my own backyard spa to relax in, but the company threw in a free hot date too!
