I was at a charity fundraiser for the local FOP this past weekend. FOP is the Fraternal Order of Police. And they actually do a lot of good things in our community. But the real treat at this event was that the SWAT team had a big display there.

Of course they were showing off their tactical gear. They had offensive things like assault rifles, grenades (I think their versions are just concussion grenades though instead of shrapnel), shotguns and handguns. They also had defensive things like body armor, shields, and military style helmets.

But what grabbed my attention were the vehicles. They had a couple of highly armored vehicles. One was a personnel carrier. There was probably room for eight inside or maybe even more. It had a hatch on top too where one of the team members could pop out. The other one looked more like a tank with big tires. But instead of a gun on the turret, it was a great big battering ram. I imagine that this thing would make short work out of a highly reinforced door and maybe even a brick wall. I’m glad I’m not on the wrong side of the law because these guys take this stuff awfully darn seriously!

Does Airsoft Hurt Worse Than a Paintball?

Of all of the interesting things that you can debate and talk about when it comes to Airsoft, whether or not it hurts worse than a paintball is certainly worth commenting on. When people first go out and get that expensive Tokyo Marui, they are probably coming over the Airsoft world from the paintball world. They have been splattered a time or two with paintballs and they have to ask, “Is this going to be worse for me?” The answer is somewhat different, depending upon who you ask.

Most people will tell you that getting hit with an Airsoft round does not hurt nearly as badly as the welt that can happen when you get hit by a paintball. Sure, if you get hit right on the skin, it is going to sting a little bit, but when compared to a paintball, it does not hurt for very long. KWA guns can really bring a pop, but when you look at the top paintball equipment, you are talking about things that can really sting. This is one of the reasons why many players are choosing to play Airsoft now as opposed to paintball. Simply put, paintballs can inflict some major damage and when it starts hurting that bad, it just is not very fun anymore.

Safety is Key to Snowboarding

Youth snowboard gear, especially helmets, is a necessary purchase when planning on taking up snowboarding as a pastime. Snowboarding is a high velocity sport that is designed to provide thrills and exhilaration. Other safety standards that can keep you from getting hurt is placing wrist guards over your gloves so you can take them on and off easily. Having a good youth snowboard jacket, especially one with good padding, is another safety precaution and can keep you from getting hurt when falling. It is also important to pad your knees and bottom since those body parts take the greatest impact when falling. While kids ski pants have great padding for skiing, if you want to practice snowboarding, it might be beneficial to add padding to your pants around the hip-waist area.

Protect yourself from wind and sun by investing in goggles which protect the eyes and cut down on the amount of glare you catch on the slopes. Lastly, don’t forget to apply a layer of Chap Stick on your lips since the sun is damaging to the face and getting a sunburn while snowboarding would be ironic.
