Spending to Save

I write frequently about the topic of frugality. I believe that we should try to spend as little as we can in both our personal and business lives. That’s because it’s too tempting to waste money if we aren’t focused on frugal spending. However I do believe that there are times when it makes sense to spend a little bit of money in the short term in order to save money in the long run.

An example of this type of situation might be if you needed to deal with a business debt problem. One way to reduce business debt is to go through a corporate debt negotiation which ultimately reduces your total amount of debt owed. It’s tough to do this type of negotiation on your own. In this case it makes sense to pay someone who provides business debt consulting services to assist you in doing the negotiation. In the end, you save money because you significantly reduce your debt.

Frugal living is a good approach to your finances. However you do have to learn how to think about the bigger picture. If you can see your total financial situation including both present and future then you can make smart decisions about when it makes sense to spend in order to save.
