3 More Ways to Destress

yoga

Earlier I wrote about ways to destress.  They were all the happy, sappy, relaxing ways to destress, but of course not everyone is like that.  Here are a few more ways to destress for those of you who don’t want to sit still in a hot tub!

  • Take aerobics classes or something similar.  My sister used to say she got rid of a lot of stress in her weekly kickboxing classes, while a friend of mine swears by yoga.  Likewise, my dance classes always provided an excellent release.  Physical activity has been shown to release happy chemicals in your brain, but I think it also has a soothing effect on mental stress and the physical effect it has on your body.
  • Play competitive sports.  You might enjoy football or soccer, but that doesn’t have to be your selection.  Airsoft guns are often used for intense competitive games such as Capture the Flag and MilSim.  You’d be surprised how much stress relief running around shooting people with KWA guns can be!
  • Find a hobby.  Destressing doesn’t have to be in a physical format, any more than it has to mean getting touchy-feely.  Starting a collection, shopping, fixing things, etc. all help you destress by giving you something else to focus on and enjoy.

What would you add to this list?  What activities help you to destress?

I swear by yoga too! Sometimes I might not feel like going to class, especially after a stressful day of work, but it always makes me feel rejuvenated and balanced!

Exercise is one of the best things you can do for stress. Exercise releases endorphins, which make you feel happy. I always feel better after a game of softball.

I quilt. Sometimes I get so involved in a project that the time just flies by and I forget about anything else that may have been causing me stress. Hobbies are a great way to just get away from it all.

I take a bath almost every night and it just helps me relax and forget about the stresses of the day. Even if I’m not feeling stressed, it always relaxes me and helped me sleep better.

Sometimes just talking things out and “venting” makes me feel better when I’m stressed. I just need to get out whatever is bothering me and then I feel fine.
