Weight Loss Alone Won’t Cure Sleep Apnea

There are many different health issues that may cause sleep apnea. One common cause of sleep apnea is being overweight. A lot of people have avoiding getting real medical treatment for their sleep apnea because they assume that losing the weight will cure the problem. A new study reveals that these people are incorrect. Losing weight alone isn’t going to solve the problem. These people also need to use a sleep apnea machine to make sure that they deal with the medical issues caused by the condition.
This isn’t to say that losing weight is unhelpful. Eating a healthier diet and getting more exercise do improve the symptoms associated with sleep apnea. Overweight patients who make an active effort to lose weight will find that some of the problems that they’ve been having will go away after the weight comes off. Unfortunately, the entire problem won’t be solved though. They’ll still need to use a CPAP machine if they want to avoid all of the various symptoms related to the disease. This is a case of doing what you can on your own by losing weight but then getting the medical help that you need in order to treat the underlying condition.
