Adoring Faience

A few months ago, I didn’t even know that faience existed. Now I can’t seem to get enough of it. I read about it. I collect it. It looks like now I’m even writing about it!

For those of you who don’t know (just like I didn’t know a few months ago) faience is a type of pottery. It is earthenware pottery (meaning that it’s a type of clay pots). These are pots that have been glazed with tin. These pots are decorated with colors. The designs are beautiful!

The name originally comes from Italy. That’s because these pots are said to have first begun to be created in Faenza, Italy. However, there are now people all around the world who make Faience pottery. For example, one of the most popular manufacturers of these types of pots today is Gien which is a French manufacturer. There are also popular faience manufacturers in England, Germany, Scandinavia, Poland and the Ukraine.

I’m not sure why I’ve fallen so in love with this style of pottery. I do that sometimes. Something will catch my attention and I’ll want to learn everything that I can possibly learn about it. Right now that thing is faience.
