The John Denver Special is Moving Despite the Station

I’ve blogged before about how much I hate KBDI, but when I came home last night they were actually running a special about John Denver, and I found it pretty interesting. No matter that they kept referring to PFLAG manning their telethon phones; at least the subject itself wasn’t radical left-wing propaganda.
I suppose they felt that John Denver represented hippie flower-power or something. I always felt he represented country folk a heck of a lot more. But no matter-they were covering his most famous songs and what his ex-wife was feeling when he wrote some of his songs. They showed the John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen, Colorado, and that looked really neat what with the large white boulders inscribed with his song lyrics and the outdoor garden wall fountains.
The whole thing is completely outdoors, and kids are meant to climb around on the sanctuary itself, except for the garden wall fountains, I suppose. But it’s really pretty cool. I had missed the first 45 minutes of the special, so I’m not sure how much of his early life they showed. I hope they run it again so I can catch up on that, even though this TV station is so completely annoying what with its huge station breaks to drum up money and promote liberalism!
